The accused, 17, has been arrested in the case filed by the girl
A teenage girl from Rajbari district jumped into the Padma River to escape a rape attempt made by her boyfriend.
The accused, identified as Ibrahim Khalil, 17, was arrested following a case filed by the survivor on Monday, confirmed Rajbari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammad Shahadat Hossain.
“Khalil has been sent to the court,” the OC said.
According to the survivor, she and Ibrahim met six months ago.
As schools reopened on Sunday after a suspension of 18 long months due to Covid-19, they went for a walk along the banks of the Padma River adjacent to the Godar Bazar area in the district town.
At one point, Ibrahim forced himself on her in a secluded spot on the east side of the Mostafa Brickyard near the river bank. She ran away and jumped into the river to save herself from the perpetrator.
Later, the locals rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. She was then taken to Rajbari Sadar Hospital for treatment.
