CID Additional DIG Imam Hossain revealed the information during a press briefing on Wednesday
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police on Wednesday said that incidents of “power rape” have increased in the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
CID Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Imam Hossain revealed the information during a press briefing in Dhaka’s CID headquarters on Wednesday.
He said: “Powerful and influential people are spending lazy time amid this pandemic. So they are committing crimes like rape within their areas of dominance.
“Power rape did not exist in Bangladesh. But such incidents have been reported in the past two to five years. Such people rape the survivors in their areas of dominance and control to avoid risks.
“No one stops them from doing what they do. By raping one, they send a message to their other targets. They, a group of three to four people, use brute force if their targets refuse to comply,” he added.
A group gang-raped a woman at her own house in Gopalganj on April 4. CID recently arrested those involved in the incident and termed the act “power rape.”
