Woman’s body bound by rope recovered from Teesta shoal in Lalmonirhat

Police have recovered the body of a woman from a shoal in Teesta river in Kalmati area under Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila.

The deceased was later identified as Shahina Begum (44), wife of late Taiyub Ali of Chaitarmor village at Bhelabari union in Aditmari upazila.

The woman, a local rural kabiraj (herbal medicine practitioner), had left her house on Friday evening and had been missing since then, Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Aditmari Police Station, said citing her family members.

This morning, locals saw the body of the woman on the shoal with her hands and legs tied up, and informed police, who later went to the spot and recovered the body. It was kept at the station unidentified before her family members went to there this afternoon and identified it.

The body has been sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Shaha Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station, adding that the cause of the death could not be ascertained without autopsy report.
“We are preparing to file a murder case,” said Tanzina Khatun (22), daughter of the deceased.
