A nine-year-old girl was raped yesterday in Terokhada upazila of Khulna allegedly by a member of police.
The victim’s father filed a case with Terokhada Police Station in connection with the incident, said Swapan Kumar Roy, officer-in-charge of the police station.
The incident took place in Modhupur union under the upazila around 11:00am yesterday, according to the case statement.
The victim is undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Khulna Medical College Hospital at present, reports our Khulna correspondent.
Dr Anjan Kumar Chakraborty, coordinator of OCC at KMCH, told the Daily Star that the condition of the child is not stable yet.
Police arrested the accused, Rezaul Islam (22), a police personnel posted at Natore Police Lines hailing from Mokampur village of Terokhada’s Madhupur union, said OC Swapan Kumar Roy.
Rezaul came to the village recently on vacation, he said.
The victim’s father alleged that Rezaul lured the girl to his house when she went to collect flowers in the vicinity and then raped her. The girl then returned home and told her mother about the incident.
Police are investigating the incident, OC Swapan Roy added.
